Senator Roberts says FISA court must supervise surveilance.

Sat Feb 18, 2006 at 02:19:32 AM PDT

Senator Roberts of Kansas has stated that Bush's secret surveilance program needs supervision by the FISA Court:

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Pat Roberts said Friday that he wanted the Bush administration's domestic eavesdropping program brought under the authority of an intelligence court -- a move President Bush says is not necessary.

Roberts, a Kansas Republican who is chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he had concerns that the court could not issue warrants quickly enough to keep up with the needs of the eavesdropping program. But he said he would like to see those details worked out.

Roberts also said he did not think that exempting the program from the purview of the court created by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act "would be met with much support" on Capitol Hill.

Sheehan T-Shirt picture found.

Tue Jan 31, 2006 at 11:18:58 PM PDT

Pacific John found the money shot of the T-shirt Cindy Sheehan was wearing.

Here it is.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

If you think that wearing this t-shirt at the SOTU address is worthy of arresting, cuffing and putting someone in a cage then please explain why.

What was the fear? Would the corporate news cameramen have focused on her and risk being fired? Would Bush have got a woody? What?

If Bush was smart he'd have called off the dogs, bowed to Cindy Sheehan, said something about appreciating her sacrifice and valuing her point of view. But as we know......Bush ain't smart.

London cops who killed Brazilian may face charges.

Sun Dec 11, 2005 at 01:15:59 AM PDT

Remember the Brazilian electrician who was killed by cops in the London subway? The one who was shot in the head seven times? The one who initial stories said was wearing a bulky coat and running from the cops? Remember how follow up stories, citing leaked closed circuit TV tapes, showed that the victim not only wasn't running from anyone but that he wasn't even wearing a bulky coat?

Remember how, when the story first broke, there were many who posted here backing the cops who killed Jean Charles de Menezes and insisted that they did the right thing?

Well, it turns out, that those cops (or whatever they were) may be facing criminal charges.

Did the Oil companies help plan the war?

Thu Nov 17, 2005 at 10:25:26 AM PDT

This piece in the Village Voice infers just that

Why all the stonewalling and ultra-secrecy from the administration about Cheney's "energy taskforce"? Why the absolute refusal by Bush and Cheney to divulge not only what was discussed but who was even at those meetings for planning US energy policy?

Maybe they don't want the people to find out that the plan was to let the Energy industry do whatever it wants and to let the Oil industry gouge us on gasoline and diesel prices.

Franklin admits: I gave Israel secret material
By NATHAN GUTTMAN

Former Pentagon analyst Larry Franklin admitted in court Wednesday he passed classified information to Israeli diplomat Naor Gilon and to two former AIPAC officials, Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman.

Franklin agreed in court to testify against the two AIPAC officials and to prove that he had indeed passed classified information on to them, and had told them clearly this information was classified.

KBR Captures Another Katrina Cleanup Contract

Wed Sep 14, 2005 at 11:27:06 PM PDT

Well it looks like the jackals have indeed been invited in for a feeding frenzy over the corpse of New Orleans.

From Defense Industry Daily comes this:

"Kellogg Brown & Root Services Inc. in Arlington, VA received $15 million for Task Order 0020 under its $500 million maximum "emergency response" contract with the US government. DID covered the particulars of that contract on Monday; they set out a number of specifications that leave just a handful of global firms able to meet them."

"The malice of evil men"

Sat Sep 10, 2005 at 09:46:16 PM PDT

I was scanning Google news and found this news.telegraph article:
News.Telegraph: First Lady steps in to defuse anger at Bush

What struck me was the statement in the article from our demonstrably malicious president:

"Today, America is confronting another disaster that has caused destruction and loss of life. This time the devastation resulted not from the malice of evil men, but from the fury of water and wind,"

Wall Street Journal nails Bush!

Fri Sep 02, 2005 at 04:37:57 AM PDT

WSJ editorial nails exactly where and how Bush has failed:

"For the conservative Wall Street Journal, generally supportive of Bush's Republican administration, the authorities were partly to blame for the rampant looting and lawlessness in New Orleans."

Where can I volunteer to go help Katrina victims?

Thu Sep 01, 2005 at 10:39:33 AM PDT

Help! I saw a snippet on the news last night that the Red Cross is looking for volunteers to go help with disater relief and cleanup.

I can't bring their site up and haven't found any other contact info for volunteering.

I'm a US Army trained Combat Medic (91A) and I have a lot of experience in construction and small boat operation.

Blast from the past: 'The day of reckoning is coming'

Thu Aug 11, 2005 at 09:47:08 AM PDT

I found this NZ Herald article while searching the web for info about weapons inspectors in Iraq before the war. I'm still hearing callers to 'talk radio' saying that Saddam wouldn't let the inspectors in and that's why we had to invade Iraq. Hell, I've heard Bush still saying the same thing.

This article documents otherwise.

"Conspiracy Theory" a ridiculous term.

Fri Jul 08, 2005 at 10:28:14 PM PDT

I hate the term "conspiracy theory". It's a ridiculous conjucunction of two words which seperately mean very specific things yet together mean nothing very specific. At best it's a silly pejorative. At worst it's a rhetorical monstrosity which muddies the intellectual waters and makes them unfit to drink.

With all the talk of people being banned for espousing "conspiracy theories" I think it's time to consider what the term means ,or in reality, doesn't mean.

Don't like conspiracy theories? Quick! What IS a conspiracy theory? Can't form a coherent definition? Don't worry. You're not alone.

Cops of the world......

Sat Jun 25, 2005 at 11:44:15 PM PDT

Below you'll find the lyrics from the song "Cops of The World' by Phil Ochs. Ochs was a brilliant observer of politics and one of the best (maybe THE best) creators and singers of protest music in the 1960's.

Please read the lyrics all the way through. It's more relevant now than ever. Get a copy of the song and listen to it. You'll never forget it.

Peculiar highway sign near military base.

Mon Mar 07, 2005 at 07:56:03 PM PDT

---------------------------------------------
"Do not pick up hitch hikers, next nine miles"
---------------------------------------------

That's what the big, yellow sign along the highway warned.

I was driving south from the Bay Area,on highway 680, to a town in the Central Valley with my father. Neither one of us had traveled that route for about four years, though we had done so many times in years past. The sign caught our attention because we'd never seen anything like it before and certainly would have noticed it if it had been there a few years earlier.
